What is SPeCtra?

SPeCtra is one of many student clubs at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. The club served as the school’s gay-straight alliance, as it’s commonly referred to. The word “spectra” is the plural of “spectrum” and LGBT+ identities are, indeed, on a spectrum. The unique use of capitalization is a nod to SPC, the initialism of the college’s name.

SPeCtra Social Media Coordinator

I volunteered with SPeCtra during my studies at South Plains College, taking on the role of their Social Media Coordinator. The club met several times a month and provided a safe place for LGBT+ students and their allies. When the club held campus events, I volunteered to promote them on social media and design and distribute posters around campus.
